TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – The expansion of café businesses in Tasikmalaya city is driving up the demand for workers with expertise in the coffee sector. This situation was one of the reasons for launching a barista training program at Chronos Coffee in Tasikmalaya.
The manager of Chronos Coffee, Wahid Hidayat, said that the training is part of an effort to improve human resources skills, especially for those who want to work or develop businesses in the coffee sector.
The training was organized through a partnership between the Bandung Vocational Training and Productivity Center (BBPVP), the Tasikmalaya City Department of Manpower (Disnaker), and Chronos Coffee.

In each session, the training was attended by 16 participants, with Ryan Firmansyah as the instructor. The material covered the fundamentals of coffee brewing, from understanding coffee to serving techniques, he explained on Tuesday (29/8/2026).
Participants also received certification from the National Professional Certification Body (BNSP), acknowledging the skills they gained throughout the course. Karim noted that the demand for proficient baristas is substantial as the coffee shop sector expands in Tasikmalaya. He referenced the 2025 training material, which showed there are 496 cafés operating in the city, he said.
According to him, being a barista is not just about making coffee drinks. There are several skills that need to be mastered, ranging from understanding raw materials, brewing techniques, equipment use, maintaining product consistency, to hygiene and service.
Therefore, improving capabilities is crucial so that workers entering the coffee industry have the necessary preparation to meet business needs.
The training held at Chronos Coffee also provides participants with the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the work environment directly related to the barista profession, which is expected to serve as an additional experience before they enter the job market.
“In addition to opening up job opportunities in cafés, barista skills can also serve as capital for participants to start their own businesses in the coffee and beverage sector,” he said.
As the café ecosystem in Tasikmalaya continues to grow, the demand for skilled human resources becomes a crucial element in maintaining the quality of the coffee industry. The collaboration of this training is expected to bridge the gap between workforce needs and business requirements. (Firgiawan)
