The series’ original light novel is penned by Yu Tanaka, featuring illustrations by LLO. It first appeared on the Shosetsuka ni Naro platform in October 2015, and GC Novels later released it in printed form beginning in 2016.
A manga adaptation by Tomowo Maruyama continues to be serialized, and there is also a spin‑off titled Reincarnated as a Sword: Another Wish created by Hinako Inoue, which launched in June 2020. Seven Seas Entertainment has secured the rights to the original light novel, the main manga, and the spin‑off, providing the following description:
After a 30‑year‑old office worker and gaming fan perishes in a car crash, he awakens in a fantasy realm—but as a sword. He now quests for a lovely wielder, and a catgirl named Fran could be the perfect companion for his adventures.
