Herdiat Sunarya termasuk yang kedua. Ia lahir di Kuningan pada tanggal 10 Oktober 1960. Namun, banyak kisah hidupnya justru tertulis di Ciamis.

From the classroom to the bureaucracy, from bureaucracy to politics, and now his name is being mentioned for a broader stage: West Java.
Herdiat then continued his higher education at Pasundan University, focusing on public administration. It was a choice that would later find its own path.
Because after graduating, Herdiat indeed entered the world that deals with the state: government bureaucracy.
His career progressed step by step. Not directly becoming a regent. Not directly sitting in the front seat. There are stairs to climb.
He once served as village head, then held various bureaucratic positions until he was trusted as a structural official. His career kept moving until he finally became the Regional Secretary of Ciamis Regency.
This is where Herdiat’s journey becomes interesting. He is not a politician who first encountered government after winning an election.
He actually knew government first, then entered politics. Bureaucrat first, politician later.

Herdiat also did not stop after obtaining his bachelor’s degree. He continued his studies for a master’s degree in management, then pursued a doctoral degree.
His academic path made Herdiat’s journey quite long: government on one side, education on the other.
Perhaps he believed that managing government is not enough with just experience. There must be knowledge. And knowledge is not enough if it has never been tested in the field.
That is why Herdiat’s story is interesting to read, not just as a list of positions. There is a school of bureaucracy behind him. There is a school of politics after it. And both now meet in one name.
The year 2018 became a turning point. Herdiat left the bureaucratic path and entered the electoral political arena. In the 2018 Ciamis Regional Election, he ran together with Yana D Putra. The result: he was elected as Regent of Ciamis for the 2019–2024 period.
