Made in Abyss: Awakening Mystery, the opening film of the franchise’s fresh cinematic saga, unveiled fresh scene screenshots—showcasing, for the first time, the newcomer Nishagora. The series is slated to launch in Japan on 23 October 2026.

Continuing straight after Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun, the movie tracks Riko, Reg, Nanachi, and Faputa as they venture into the Abyss’s seventh stratum. Kinema Citrus is back as the animation house, maintaining its role from earlier instalments. The production team is made up of:

The motion picture’s theme track, “Chain of the Abyss,” is sung by composer Kevin Penkin together with Mori Calliope. The newest teaser showcased the tune and introduced Tepasté (voiced by Sumire Morohoshi) and Cravali (voiced by Takanori Hoshino).
Made in Abyss, penned and drawn by Akihito Tsukushi, chronicles the journey of a young girl called Riko and a mechanical boy named Reg into the Abyss, a colossal cavern filled with age‑old artifacts and unknown beasts. The series appears in Takeshobo’s Web Comic Gamma and has more than 22 million copies in print.
A cine‑concert called Made in Abyss Film Concert: Deep Echoes of Resonance took place on 8 February 2026 at Tokyo’s Nakano ZERO Grand Hall. Composer Kevin Penkin led an orchestra that played the anime’s score, with screening of animation on a big screen. Singers Ko Saito and KIHOW (MYTH & ROID), the duo behind the series’ theme tracks, performed live. The principal cast—Miyu Tomita (Riko), Mariya Ise (Reg) and Shiori Izawa (Nanachi)—were also on hand.
