Asteroid Daianji Makes the First Three Volumes of Asteroid in Love Free To Read

Manga Time Kirara Carat has announced that the first three volumes of Asteroid in Love will be available for free reading from September 18 through September 23 in honor of the asteroid Daianji’s discovery.

Come On! Impacting Asteroids (COIAS) found asteroid Daianji (2015 FX₄₈₈, #865364) in archived observations from the Subaru Telescope at Mauna Kea Observatory.

According to naming rules, the Subaru Telescope team would normally name asteroid #865364. However, Mauna Observatory gave COIAS permission to assign the name. The COIAS team named the minor planet “Daianji” to honor a fifth‑year student from Okayama Daianji Junior High School who was among the discoverers. The name was officially listed on September 7, 2026, in the bulletin of the International Astronomical Union’s Working Group on the Naming of Small Objects (WGSBN).

The asteroid Daianji follows a 0.046‑eccentricity elliptical path with a semi‑major axis of 2.75 au. This trajectory brings it within 1.1617 au of Earth at its nearest approach. Additional orbital data are listed below:

• Average perihelion angle: 268.844°
• Perihelion distance: 2.600 au; perihelion argument: 250682°
• Orbital period: 1,643,134 days; inclination: 1.877°
• Thiele‑Ivanov parameter: 3354

Previously, COIAS named an asteroid in honor of Quro. The series Asteroid in Love’s character Ao Manaka and Hoshizaki High School also have asteroids bearing their names.

Quro launched Asteroid in Love (Koisuru Asteroid) in January 2017. The manga was published by Houbunsha in Manga Time Kirara Carat and ran until June 2024, after which the publisher released a six‑volume tankobon collection.
