Blizzard and Netflix are creating a fresh animated series set in the Diablo universe, marking the popular action RPG’s entry into television.
The initiative was unveiled at the BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony on September 12, forming part of Blizzard’s strategic roadmap for the property, with Blizzard stating that the series is now in production alongside Netflix.
“We’re excited to announce that we’re crafting a new animated series set in the Diablo world together with Netflix.”

Blizzard’s official recap of BlizzCon also mentions that Netflix and the studio are crafting “a fresh animated series rooted in the Diablo universe,” with more details promised as the project advances.
The Diablo series largely unfolds in Sanctuary, a realm embattled by the High Heavens and the Burning Hells. The inaugural title appeared in 1996, marking 30 years of the franchise this 2026, and Blizzard reports that over 130 million gamers globally have experienced its installments.
The most recent core release, Diablo IV, debuted in 2023 and has been augmented with expansions and seasonal content. At BlizzCon, Blizzard also unveiled the next major title, confirming Diablo V for a Spring 2029 launch.
Blizzard explains that Diablo V will be set in a Sanctuary where Diablo has secured victory and humanity’s champions have been vanquished, prompting the inquiry of what a player must transform into when the realm is already lost. Additional insight into its narrative, setting, and character classes is being delivered during the Diablo V: Forging the Future session at BlizzCon.
Regarding the televised animated project, Blizzard has disclosed only its collaboration with Netflix and that the story will exist inside the Diablo universe, with further specifics slated for a future announcement.
