Marvel Studios is said to have the next major threat ready after the Multiverse Saga era concludes. According to the latest rumor, Apocalypse, also known as En Sabah Nur, is being tipped as the top candidate to be the marquee villain in the upcoming MCU saga.
The rumor originates from an industry insider who claims that Marvel isn’t casting Mister Sinister solely as the lead threat in the newest X-Men project. The character is thought to be just one piece of a larger scheme, with Apocalypse allegedly orchestrating the future conflicts.
Apocalypse Might Replace Thanos and Doctor Doom
If the rumor proves true, Apocalypse would make an intriguing choice for Marvel. The character boasts an extensive comic book history as one of the oldest and most formidable mutants. Holding extreme beliefs about “survival of the fittest”, Apocalypse sees himself as entitled to dictate the evolution of humanity and mutants.
Apocalypse also commands a power level large enough to threaten both the Avengers and the X-Men. This makes him a fitting primary villain following the major clash against Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
However, it’s important to note that information about Apocalypse remains merely rumor and has not been confirmed by Marvel Studios. At present, the MCU’s primary focus lies on the two major films slated to conclude the Multiverse Saga, namely Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Interestingly, this rumor coincides with preparations for an X-Men reboot in the MCU. As mutants assume a larger role in Marvel storytelling, having Apocalypse as the chief threat could mark a significant step in constructing a new era after the multiverse storyline concludes.
If it comes to pass, Apocalypse could emerge as the next marquee villain, filling a role akin to Thanos in the Infinity Saga. Nevertheless, fans must await an official announcement from Marvel concerning the future direction of the MCU.
