GARUT, Thecuy.com – The Garut District Fire and Rescue Department (Disdamkarmat) recorded a notable rise in fire incidents throughout 2026.

Based on fire handling data up to September 6, 2026, a total of 450 fire cases were recorded.

This number rose compared to the total of 225 incidents recorded in 2025.

The Head of the Garut District Fire Department, Usep Basuki Eko, stated that out of 450 incidents in 2026, 204 were non‑area fires.

PGRI Kota Banjar warns teachers not to fall for illegal loans and online gambling, while advocating for the Pamegatan‑Singajaya road in Garut to be designated as a provincial road.

“Meanwhile, 246 other incidents were land fires. Thus, there was an increase of 225 cases, or about 100 percent compared to all fire incidents in 2025,” he said on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

This comparison indicates that the rise in fire incidents in 2026 was mainly driven by a higher number of land fires.

He explained that the most concerning condition was the increase in land fire cases.

In 2025, the Garut District Fire and Rescue Department recorded 21 land fire incidents. By September 6, 2026, the figure had risen to 246.

According to the data, there was an addition of 225 incidents, which is about 1,071.43 percent higher than the number of land fires recorded throughout 2025.

He stated that the biggest surge in 2026 occurred in August with 122 incidents, followed by July with 81 incidents.

“The data shows a very significant increase in land fire risk and it could still rise by the end of the year,” he said.

The New Market area in Garut will be renovated, with traders temporarily relocated; street lighting is out, making RTA Prawira Adiningrat’s route in Tasikmalaya hazardous.

Meanwhile, non‑area fires throughout 2025 were recorded at 204 incidents. In 2026, up to September 6, the number matched the previous year’s total of 204 incidents.

The highest number of non‑area fires in 2026 occurred in July with 35 incidents, followed by August with 29 and February with 27.

He said the number matched the total non‑area fire incidents recorded in 2025.

“Up to September 6, 2026, 204 incidents were recorded, reaching 100 percent of the previous year’s total,” he said.

The large number of fire cases highlights the growing threat of fires in the Garut area.

Moreover, the surge in land fires, which is more than ten times higher than the previous year, is a serious concern for fire prevention and response efforts.

His side continues to improve readiness, especially in dealing with the increased potential for land fires during the mid‑year period. “Strengthening public education on fire prevention,” he concluded. (Agi Sugiana)
