PANGANDARAN, Thecuy.com – The plan to reactivate the Banjar‑Cijulang railway line remains merely a discussion, with no clear timeline for its implementation. Even though the topic is frequently brought up in meetings, there has been a lack of inter‑agency coordination that would indicate any real progress toward making the idea happen.

The Secretary of the Pangandaran Regency Department of Transportation, Ghaniyy Fahmi Basyah, stated that the reactivation of the railway line is a key item on the agenda for a meeting of transportation directors across West Java.

According to him, the Banjar‑Cijulang railway line holds strategic importance for enhancing connectivity between regions and supporting the economy of Pangandaran Regency.

Kota Tasikmalaya plans to reorganize the Dadaha terminal even though street vendors remain, because there is no fuel station in Langkaplancar, Pangandaran. Pertamina suggests buying fuel at these designated locations.

“This also motivates the West Java Government to find a way to reactivate the railway service between Banjar and Cijulang,” he told Radar on Monday (7/9/2026).

Ghaniyy noted that the reactivation is not solely about reviving an old transport mode, but also serves as part of developing the region’s economic potential.

He cited that Pangandaran has several agricultural and horticultural products with export potential, such as cardamom, which is already being shipped to China.

“There are several agricultural and plantation commodities in Pangandaran Regency that currently have export potential to China, such as cardamom,” he said.

The presence of a railway line would enable more efficient distribution of commodities from Pangandaran to other regions and ports, and could also improve public mobility. Ghaniyy explained that the idea of reviving the Banjar‑Cijulang line is not new; around a year ago, several ministries had already conducted direct inspections.

Among them were the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs, Bappenas, and the Ministry of Transportation. Several historic structures have been inspected, including the Cikacepit Bridge and the Wilhelmina Tunnel.

“Historically, in the 1980s, when the volcano erupted, the railway track collapsed,” he explained.

A young individual has passed away while a youth organization continues its meeting, and a Maulid ceremony awaits the mayor.

Because of its historical value and connectivity potential, he believes the plan should be continually promoted. He hopes that the West Java Provincial Government and the Pangandaran Regency Government will soon communicate with the central government.
