The latest news comes from Indonesia’s popular horror film franchise. Pengabdi Setan 3 Origin has officially entered production and is being prepared for a 2027 theatrical release. The film again features Joko Anwar as both writer and director.
The newest project is being handled by Rapi Films and Come and See Pictures, with support from Sky Media and Legacy Pictures. The third installment continues the story journey that began with Pengabdi Setan in 2017 and Pengabdi Setan 2: Communion released in 2022.
Pengabdi Setan 3 Origin’s Narrative Reveals the Beginning of Hidden Mysteries
Rather than simply continuing the events of the previous film, Pengabdi Setan 3 Origin will take viewers deeper into the origins of various mysteries that have remained unexplained so far.
Joko Anwar noted that many parts of the Pengabdi Setan story were intentionally left out, leaving questions for viewers. The third film will be an opportunity to uncover some of these mysteries while expanding the story world that has been built since the first film.
Enthusiasm for the project also stems from the success of the previous two films. The first Pengabdi Setan film attracted over 4.2 million viewers in Indonesia. Its sequel further explores the story of sects and relationships among characters.
Cast and Plot Details Remain Under Wraps
At present, details about the cast and storyline of Pengabdi Setan 3 Origin have not been fully disclosed. The production team is expected to share information about characters and actors gradually.
The film also receives support from South Korea’s Barunson E&A as an international sales agent to aid distribution to global markets.
With production already underway, Pengabdi Setan 3 Origin is one of the Indonesian horror films to look forward to in 2027.
