TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – The Payung Geulis of Tasikmalaya city serves more than just decorative purposes at the 13th Indonesia Umbrella Festival (FESPIN) XIII 2026 held in Solo’s Taman Balekambang.
Behind its distinctive colors and patterns, the iconic craft of Tasikmalaya city carries a larger mission: to pave the way for local products to gain recognition up to the global market.
Tasikmalaya city stands as the sole region from West Java featured in FESPIN XIII 2026, which takes place from 4 to 6 September 2026.

The festival showcases the theme Catra Padi – Sepayung Dewi Sri, featuring a comprehensive narrative about rice, food security, and culture.
This year’s FESPIN involves participation from nearly 40 cities across Indonesia as well as representatives from several countries, including South Korea, Thailand, India, Japan, Poland, and Mongolia.
The Deputy Chairperson of Dekranasda of Tasikmalaya City, Rani Permayani, stated that Tasikmalaya’s involvement extends beyond presenting the Payung Geulis.
A wide array of top craft products were exhibited, ranging from embroidered dresses, embroidered batik, embroidered kebaya, knitwear, bags, to accessories made from processed wood.
“Among them are tarumpah and mendong crafts that have gained global recognition,” Rani said during a telephone conversation with reporters on Saturday (5/9/2026).
According to Rani, the FESPIN stage offers Tasikmalaya city an opportunity to showcase the strength of its local crafts to a broader audience.
He hopes that the presence of these products will not merely serve as festival decorations, but will be able to stimulate the growth of the local creative industry so that it becomes more widely recognized.

“We also aim to bring spirit, motivation, and appreciation for Tasikmalaya city, so that it can become more renowned for its distinctive, unique, and exceptionally cool superior products,” he clarified.
Rani emphasized that the quality of Tasikmalaya crafts is comparable to products from other regions. Therefore, local products are deemed worthy of appreciation as well as space for continued development.
“The crafts possessed by Tasikmalaya city are no less enchanting than those from other regions, thus they deserve appreciation from other areas and further advancement,” he added.
FESPIN XIII 2026 is not merely an umbrella festival. The cultural agenda also features 163 artistic performances presented in a marathon format, encompassing dance, music, fashion, and theater.
