TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – A trip to Kampung Wangunwati, Sukawangun Village, Karangnunggal District, Tasikmalaya Regency, takes tourists away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Lush rice fields, residents’ farms, and a serene village atmosphere gradually give way to a rocky natural landscape.

It is here that Gua Malawang is located. Hidden in the southern part of Tasikmalaya Regency, this area offers a tourist experience that goes beyond just natural beauty. Behind the cliffs and cave passages lie traces of ancient human life, giving the site both historical value and tourist appeal.

Gua Malawang is a cultural heritage site consisting of a natural cave complex covering an area of approximately 5 hectares. Inside, there are several caves, including Gua Keraton, Gua Dapur, Gua Batu Masigit, and a cave shaped like an elephant.

It’s not just caves; the Malawang area also features a river with natural canyon-like scenery. Rocky cliffs, flowing water, and the surrounding rural environment create a natural landscape that differs from tourist destinations that rely on artificial attractions.

Gua Malawang is located about 35 to 40 kilometers from downtown Tasikmalaya. By private vehicle, the journey takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on road conditions.

The usual route goes from Tasikmalaya City to Kawalu, then across the Cibalong-Karangnunggal Highway. At the junction before Setiawaras Village, turn left towards Sukawangun Village, then continue to Kampung Wangunwati until reaching the Gua Malawang area.

The access to the location is not yet fully ideal. However, this situation creates a unique experience. The journey to the site becomes part of the tourism itself, as visitors are treated to rural scenery, rice fields, farms, and ongoing community activities in a natural setting.

One guide from KawanLokal Sukawangun Village, Ika Mustikawati, stated that Gua Malawang is a tourism potential that combines historical value and natural beauty.

“The presence of the cave complex makes tourists not only come to enjoy the scenery but also to learn more about the area’s history and the surrounding community’s life,” she said.
