The Apothecary Diaries: The Late Lady’s Treasure has wrapped up its four‑day rollout of character teasers, showcasing the Bi clan, the Kajadan pirates, and the newly created leads Ruòqíng and Yinshan, in preparation for the movie’s Japanese premiere on December 11, 2026.
This film marks the debut theatrical entry in the The Apothecary Diaries franchise, presenting a fresh mystery penned by the series’ original creator. Norihiro Naganuma serves as director, while TOHO Animation STUDIO oversees animation production. Crunchyroll has just secured the North American and global distribution rights for the picture.
The second character promo video, which debuted on October 12, spotlights the Bi clan, the rulers of Binan‑shu, the southern province central to most of the film’s plot. Fresh voices join the cast: Mariya Ise as Mu Qing, Nobuo Tobita as Birou, Kumiko Watanabe as Qiuyu, and Hirofumi Nojima as Bisen.
The third promo, out on October 13, presents the Kajadan, a band of buccaneers hunting for loot once stashed by their deceased captain. Kensho Ono provides the voice for the current leader Suija, while Ryota Takeuchi plays Eisho and Jiro Saito portrays Kaja.
The fourth and last teaser reveals Ruòqíng and Yinshan. Ruòqíng is a mid‑level consort who passed away in the imperial rear palace five years prior to the story’s timeline, and Yinshan is her former head maid. Miyuki Sawashiro lends her voice to Ruòqíng, and Ai Mikami portrays Yinshan. Both roles were crafted exclusively for this film.
The official film synopsis reads:
A fresh enigma unfolds, centered on a concealed treasure tucked away in a waterfront metropolis.
The sovereign tasks Jinshi with fulfilling the last request of a deceased concubine—sending her remains back to her native soil.
To comply with the command, Jinshi inspects the corpse and finds it remarkably preserved, looking so lifelike that she appears still breathing.
Uncovering the secret behind the corpse leads Jinshi to bring Maomao along on a quest to Binan‑shu, the southern region governed by the Bi clan.
Upon reaching a lively aquatic city, Maomao marvels at unfamiliar plants and potions, yet the atmosphere is tense as ruthless pirates hunt for the loot their former captain concealed.
“I hope nothing goes wrong…”
Jinshi’s foreboding materializes. During the concubine’s burial ceremony, a massive upheaval unfolds, setting off a cascade of unforeseen consequences.
