Nintendo has revealed two upcoming Nintendo Direct events for next week, kicking off with a The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct on September 8.

The Legend of Zelda Direct will commence at 7:00 a.m. PT and run for roughly 30 minutes. Nintendo hasn’t disclosed the broadcast’s agenda yet, though hints point to news about Ocarina of Time, a title already slated for a 2026 launch.

Another Nintendo Direct is set for September 9 at 7:00 a.m. PT and is expected to last about 45 minutes.

This initial show celebrates the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, a series that debuted with its inaugural title in 1986.

The schedule is:

  • September 8, 7:00 a.m. PT: The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, approximately 30 minutes
  • September 9, 7:00 a.m. PT: Nintendo Direct, about 45 minutes

First launched on the Nintendo 64 in Japan in November 1998 and rolled out worldwide later that year, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is acclaimed as one of the most influential games ever made. Developed by Nintendo EAD and helmed by directors Eiji Aonuma and Yoshiaki Koizumi, with producer Shigeru Miyamoto overseeing, the title pioneered many gameplay elements that later became standards for 3D action‑adventure titles.

To date, it has sold over 14 million copies across its original Nintendo 64 version and the enhanced Nintendo 3DS remake that arrived in 2011. The series continues to echo its legacy, with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom serving as the 2023 direct follow‑up. Meanwhile, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment debuted on the Nintendo Switch 2 as a prequel to TotK.

A live‑action movie based on The Legend of Zelda is scheduled for release on April 30, 2027.
