Dragon Ball is a Japanese manga authored by Akira Toriyama in 1984. It appeared in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from 1984 through 1989. The Dragon Ball Z follow‑up launched in 1989 and concluded in 1995. The series that followed Z, titled Dragon Ball Super, began publishing in 2015 and remains in production.

The property has spawned many anime versions, the most recent being Dragon Ball Super and Super Dragon Ball Heroes. Since the latter operates outside the primary timeline, enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the next chapter. The Dragon Ball Super television series aired from July 2015 until March 2018, totalling 131 episodes. Crunchyroll carries the show and outlines its plot as follows:

After the defeat of Majin Buu, Goku adopts an unexpected new identity…a radish farmer?! With the planet at ease, the heroes settle into everyday existence. Yet tranquility is fleeting. In a distant realm, the mighty God of Destruction, Beerus, awakens to a prophecy foretelling his end at the hands of an even more powerful adversary. As his quest for the Saiyan God brings him to Earth, can Goku and his allies confront their greatest challenge yet?

The newest installment, Dragon Ball Super: SUPER HERO, premiered in theaters during August 2022 and posted a robust opening weekend in North America. The series also concluded its recent broadcast of Dragon Ball DAIMA, and additional initiatives are in the pipeline. Among them is a Dragon Ball‑themed amusement park slated for a 500,000‑square‑meter footprint, set to become a centerpiece of Qiddiya City in Saudi Arabia.

Akira Toriyama, the creator, died on March 1, 2024.
