At the July gathering of Japan Expo Paris, we interviewed voice actor Junya Enoki about his portrayal of Yuji Itadori in Jujutsu Kaisen. Enoki appeared at the event for the series’ 5th‑year anniversary and used the meet‑&‑greet to connect with fans across Europe.
As we anticipate Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4, we explore Enoki‑san’s insights and memories of bringing Itadori to life.
Selected sections of this conversation were trimmed for brevity and clarity. The interview was carried out with the help of an interpreter.
Q: Although Itadori resembles typical shōnen heroes, he also displays a laid‑back demeanor. How challenging was it for you to blend his brave and easygoing sides?
A: Itadori’s courage is strong, but I didn’t over‑think the mix. His character is written that way, so I just followed the script and it felt natural.
Q: If you had to manage Sukuna’s presence within Itadori, how would you have handled it? Was it hard to step into Itadori’s perspective?
A: Sukuna’s existence forced me to change how I played Itadori. Since Sukuna creates the conflict, Itadori has to stay on guard and can’t trust him. However, during scenes with friends such as Megumi and Nobara, I still needed to convey his underlying trust.
Q: How did your initial view of Itadori differ from what you understand about him after three seasons?
A: Itadori’s journey has been heavy. He suffers due to Sukuna’s actions and loses many people, which makes me empathize with him.
Q: Which episode has been the most difficult for Itadori up to now?
A: The Shibuya Incident stands out; the loss of many lives and Itadori’s sense of responsibility weigh on him heavily. Imagining his guilt made it hard for me to stay.
Q: If you could meet Itadori in person, what would you say to him?
A: I’d give him a hug.

Q: Which character would you like to voice besides Itadori?
A: I’d pick Inumaki since he’s quiet. Itadori constantly screams, so Inumaki would be gentler on my voice.
Q: Which Jujutsu Kaisen tracks do you enjoy most— Openings, endings, or insert songs?
A: I love the ending “more than words.” It captures Itadori’s emotions, and I really connect with it.
Q: Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 introduces a whole new set of characters. Do you have any favorites?
A: Kirara stands out for me. Her ability is intriguing and one‑of‑a‑kind, and it’s quite complex. I also love how she looks; she’s really cute.
Q: How do you physically prepare for scenes where Itadori both speaks and fights, such as the courtroom duel with Higuruma?
A: I focus on internal dialogue. I treat it like an inner battle with myself.
Q: What message would you send to your fans overseas?
A: I’m aware that many fans in France and across the globe love Jujutsu Kaisen. We’re currently crafting the next season, so I’ll give it my all—even lots of screaming. Please stay tuned for Season 4.

We would like to thank Japan Expo Paris and Enoki‑san for this interview. We look forward to seeing him at future events.
