A fresh Pokémon anime film titled Pokémon: Wild Card has been confirmed for a 2027 release. The story will revolve around the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), featuring a teaser trailer and a “Super Teaser Visual” that have been unveiled. It is promoted as an all‑new, full‑length animated movie.
The initiative was launched at the Pokémon World Championships 2026 in San Francisco and will be the franchise’s inaugural new film in roughly seven years. The most recent theatrical entry was Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle, which opened in Japan in December 2020.
The teaser trailer features Mikiya, a player of the Pokémon Card Game donning a yellow hood that echoes Mimikyu’s style. Mimikyu makes an appearance as well.
Katsuhiko Kitada, known for his work as an episode director on THE FIRST SLAM DUNK, is helming the film. Akemi Hayashi is responsible for the character designs, while CloverWorks oversees the animation production. The teaser visual can be viewed beneath this text.
Pokémon announced its Generation 10 titles and starter Pokémon at this year’s Pokémon Day, streamed during the Pokémon Presents event on February 27, 2026. The games, called Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, are slated for an exclusive Nintendo Switch 2 launch in 2027.
The series has unveiled multiple special anime shorts, such as a piece for World Earth Day, a Dragonite‑centric episode produced by CoMix Wave Films during Pokémon Day 2025, and the latest POKÉTOON short titled Wartortle and the Continuation of Summer, directed by Shingo Yamashita.
A further new anime, titled The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu, was just confirmed for 2027. Produced by Aardma in stop‑motion, it will be available on Disney Plus.
