TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – An 81‑year‑old man named Toto died after apparently falling from the canopy of an empty shop at Jalan Rajapolah, Dawagung village, Rajapolah sub‑district, Tasikmalaya regency, on Saturday (29/8/2026).

The victim is thought to have been cleaning dry leaf litter on the rooftop of an unoccupied shop located near the railway crossing entrance when he fell.

The First Division Chief of Tasikmalaya City Police, Ipda Jonih Jonansa, confirmed that the incident occurred.

“Yes, it’s true,” Jonih said when contacted.

According to gathered information, the incident was reported around 4:00 PM WIB. Earlier, at about 10:00 AM WIB, the victim was seen working, clearing dry leaves from the rooftop of an empty shop.

A nearby witness observed the victim working on the canopy. However, by around 12:00 PM WIB, the victim could no longer be seen.

The witness then searched for the victim and discovered him lying face‑down at the back of the shop.

The discovery was reported to other witnesses and local residents. The incident was then notified to the police.

An on‑scene investigation suggests the victim slipped and fell from the canopy. The steel support structure of the canopy was also found broken, apparently caused by the victim stepping on it.

The victim is estimated to have fallen from a height of roughly 7 meters. At the time of the fall, the back of his head is thought to have struck a stone below the canopy first.

As a result of the incident, the victim suffered a laceration to the back of his head, causing a fractured or cracked skull. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police officers proceeded to investigate and process the crime scene (TKP), questioned several witnesses, and secured evidence linked to the incident.

The victim’s family expressed acceptance of the tragedy. They also declined an autopsy on the corpse and prepared a written statement concerning this refusal.

The body was then handed over to the family for immediate burial. (rezza rizaldi)
