Thecuy.com, Jombang – A storage area for ballot boxes used in the election of Ahlul Halli Wal Aqdi (AHWA) members has been prepared at Ponpes Putri Al Muhajirin I Bahrul Ulum, Tambakberas, Jombang, East Java. This preparation is an essential component of the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Muktamar, scheduled for 29 August 2026.
A designated room within the pesantren complex has been marked with a sign reading “AHWA Ballot Box Storage”. This ballot box will be employed in the election of nine AHWA members, who are responsible for appointing the Rais Aam PBNU. The process includes votes cast by NU Regional Boards (PWNU) and NU Branch Boards (PCNU) as electors.
AHWA serves as a crucial mechanism within NU’s leadership structure. The AHWA members are chosen based on the highest number of votes from PWNU and PCNU, and the nine ulama with the most votes will decide who becomes the Rais Aam PBNU. Consequently, the storage and safeguarding of the ballot box are essential to ensure that the election process proceeds smoothly and transparently.
A number of security officers and committee members are observed guarding the area around the ballot box storage. Meanwhile, the vicinity of the Muktamar is filled with muktamirin attending the series of sessions, indicating a busy and attentive atmosphere concerning the election process.
The Chairman of the Organizing Committee (OC) for the 35th NU Muktamar, Saifullah Yusuf, also known as Gus Ipul, stated that several ulama who previously served as AHWA members are likely to be re-elected. Among them are Kiai Huda Djazuli and Kiai Miftachul Akhyar. Nonetheless, Gus Ipul emphasized that these names are still preliminary predictions, as the final outcome remains contingent on the valid votes received from PWNU and PCNU.
The AHWA election process and the determination of the Rais Aam PBNU constitute one of the pivotal moments in the 35th NU Muktamar held in Jombang. The storage of the ballot box at Ponpes Al Muhajirin ensures that NU’s internal democratic mechanism operates in accordance with applicable regulations, thereby preserving the confidence of the muktamar participants and NU members at large.
