TAWANG, Thecuy.com-The traffic management strategy that involves closing the main Dadaha route to vehicle access is rumored to be a method employed by the Tasikmalaya City Government to regulate street vendors (PKL). Nevertheless, the relocation of these vendors is expected to spark a new and more intricate controversy.

Community leader and RW chairman in the Dadaha area, Asep WK, believes that closing the main route indicates the government’s inability to manage street vendors. As a result, they resort to a tactic based on the assumption that vendors will move away from the sidewalk. “But the question is, where will they go?”, he told Radar on Sunday (23/8/2026).

Considering the Transportation Office’s statement about the spread of crowds, it suggests that the residential area behind GOR Sukapura will become busy with vehicle traffic. This congestion, however, creates disturbances and concerns. “It becomes noisy with vehicles and is prone to accidents; there are schools and many children’s activities there,” he explained.

The commotion could attract street vendors to set up stalls there. It is possible that traders from the main Dadaha route will move to the alternative road. “Already accident-prone, plus the presence of vendor stalls, will make it even more uncomfortable,” he said.

Even more concerning is if those setting up stalls there are not relocating from the main road, as there is a chance that new street vendors will emerge. This situation will cause the problematic area to expand further. “Because those selling in Dadaha are mostly outsiders (Dadaha), it’s unclear which traders will set up stalls there in the future,” he stated.

According to Asep WK, regulating the Dadaha area requires a firm stance from the government, not a tactic that only creates new controversies. “Create rules that clearly define no-vendor zones, and there must be clear and firm sanctions,” he emphasized. (Rangga Jatnika)
