TAWANG, Thecuy.com-The city government of Tasikmalaya is said to have employed a traffic‑engineering tactic by closing the main Dadaha road to vehicles in order to regulate street vendors (PKL). However, moving the vendors is expected to spark a new, more complex controversy.
Community leader and RW chairman of the Dadaha area, Asep WK, said the closure of the main road demonstrated the government’s inability to control PKL. Consequently, a tactic was used based on speculation that PKL would leave the sidewalk. “But the question is, where will they go?”, he told Radar on Sunday (23/8/2026).
Examining the Transportation Department’s narrative about spreading crowds means the residential road behind GOR Sukapura will become busy with vehicle traffic. That crowding actually causes disturbance and concern. “It will be noisy with vehicles and risky for accidents, because there is a school and many children’s activities there,” he said.

That crowding could also attract PKL to set up stalls there. Because there is a possibility that vendors from the main Dadaha route will move to the alternative road. “It is already accident‑prone, and with PKL stalls it will become even more uncomfortable,” he explained.
Not to mention if those who set up stalls on that route are not migrants from the main road, because there is a possibility that new PKL will emerge. This condition will make the problematic area expand. “Because those who sell in Dadaha are many outsiders (Dadaha), so later who knows which vendors will set up stalls there,” he said.
According to Asep WK, the regulation of the Dadaha area requires a firm stance from the government, not a tactic that creates a new controversy. “Make regulations that clearly define PKL prohibited zones, there must be clear and firm sanctions,” he emphasized.(Rangga Jatnika)
