Worldwide sales of Injustice 2 have topped 9 million copies. The figure was announced directly by Ed Boon, head of NetherRealm Studios, while responding to fan queries about the commercial performance of the DC‑themed fighting title. This milestone indicates that the game still boasts a sizable player community even years after its 2017 launch.
Having sold over 9 million copies, Injustice 2 is now closing in on several Mortal Kombat titles. Mortal Kombat X reportedly sold about 12 million units, while Mortal Kombat 11 has already surpassed 15 million in sales.
Meanwhile, Mortal Kombat 1 only managed to exceed 8 million copies this year. Considering Injustice 2’s age and its regular discounted pricing, reaching the 9‑million mark remains a notable achievement.
Injustice 2’s success, having sold 9 million copies, has sparked discussion about the series’ future. To date, NetherRealm has not officially announced an Injustice 3, but various clues uncovered over recent years have kept speculation alive.
One clue came from a 2021 leak in the Nvidia GeForce Now database, which listed Injustice 3. Ed Boon has also hinted multiple times that NetherRealm still intends to develop another entry in the Injustice series. In 2025, speculation intensified when a leaker posted a teaser about the project.
Additional hints appeared in 2026 when a Warner Bros. Games artist allegedly listed Injustice 3 among his projects in a resume. While this does not amount to an official confirmation, the accumulation of evidence has heightened anticipation for a potential third installment.
Having sold over 9 million copies, Injustice 2 undoubtedly gives Warner Bros. a solid rationale to explore the franchise’s next chapter. Should Mortal Kombat take a break, Injustice 3 could be an appealing option for NetherRealm to return to delivering intense battles among DC characters.
