A four-year-old child chooses wayang golek as a space to learn, create, and discover his ancestral culture.
He is Abang Aqsha, a young puppeteer from Jamanis who performed in a wayang golek show on Saturday (15/8/2026). On that occasion, Abang Aqsha presented the story “Sastra Jingga Jadi Relawan.”

The event was also attended by the Islamic Student Art Institute (LSMI) of HMI Tasikmalaya Branch, as an appreciation for efforts to preserve local art and culture, particularly puppetry.
The director of LSMI HMI Tasikmalaya Branch, Cepi Sultoni, expressed happiness at the emergence of young people who are interested in traditional art.
“It is truly joyful to see a Generation Alpha, aged four, who preserves ancestral arts, especially puppetry. We know that nowadays Generation Alpha often focuses on games or social media. However, Abang Aqsha chooses to use social media to create through puppetry,” Cepi said on Sunday (16/8/2026).
According to Cepi, Abang Aqsha is not merely learning to become a puppeteer. More than that, he demonstrates that a generation born amid technological advancement can still maintain a strong connection to its cultural roots.
He said that the development of times should not cause young people to grow further from tradition. Conversely, technology can be harnessed as a new medium to introduce traditional arts to a broader audience.
“Puppet shows do not have to end on stage. The stories, characters, voices, and values within them can move into the digital realm. Social media can become a path for traditional art to meet new generations,” he added.
