TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – The number of new HIV‑AIDS cases in Tasikmalaya City reached 88 as of June 2026. Forty of them contracted the virus through sexual relations between men who are part of the LGBT community.
Amid the phenomenon of sexual deviation, there is a disease threat that cannot be ignored, namely HIV/AIDS. The Men Who Have Sex with Men (LSL) group has dominated transmission cases in recent years.
Based on a field report in Tasikmalaya City, out of 808 LSL individuals who underwent HIV testing until June 2026, 40 tested HIV positive, approximately 5 percent.

The figure has been confirmed by the Regional AIDS Control Commission (KPAD) of Tasikmalaya City as the highest percentage compared to other groups that were also tested.
The HIV/AIDS Program Manager at KPAD Tasikmalaya City, Wawan Wardiana, stated that the pattern of HIV transmission in the city has changed compared to the early 2000s.
“In the past, HIV transmission was mostly among injecting drug users. However, since 2014 until now, it is more prevalent due to sexual behavior,” Wawan told Radar on Wednesday (12/8/2026).
According to him, the LSL group in HIV program data is not automatically synonymous with homosexuality.
LSL is a category based on sexual behavior, meaning that a person who has a female partner or wife can also fall into this category if they engage in sexual relations with a man.
“LSL may not necessarily belong to the homosexual group. It could also be heterosexual, for example, having a woman at home but also engaging with men outside,” he said.
That situation, said Wawan, also makes the recorded LSL numbers appear high because the category is based on behavior, not solely on a person’s sexual identity.

The data shows that new HIV‑AIDS cases in Tasikmalaya City have fluctuated year by year. In 2024, 169 new cases were recorded, decreasing to 146 in 2025. As of June 2026, 88 cases have been recorded.
Cumulatively, since 2004 until June 2026, there have been 1,595 new validated cases. The Secretary of KPAD Tasikmalaya City, Tarlan, stated that the transmission pattern is no longer dominated by injecting drug users, as it was in the early period of HIV case detection.
“Thank God, for several years now, the number is zero. There are no more transmissions from injecting drug use,” said Tarlan.
