This situation caught the attention of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) of Tasikmalaya while they provided financial literacy education to hundreds of new students of Padjadjaran University (Unpad), as part of the New Student Orientation (PAMUKA) for the Academic Year 2026/2027 at Aula 1 PPBS B Unpad Building, on Thursday (6/8/2026).

OJK equips students with knowledge on how to manage finances, rights and obligations as consumers of financial services, and steps to recognize illegal financial activities.

Assistant Manager of OJK Tasikmalaya, Andriani Alfiah, said that students have great potential as agents of change. However, this group is also quite vulnerable to becoming targets of various financial crime schemes.

“Entering university life marks the beginning of financial independence for many students. Therefore, it’s crucial to develop wise financial management habits, understand rights and obligations as consumers of financial services, and always apply the 2L principle, namely Legal and Logical,” Andriani said.

According to her, students must verify the legality and reasonableness of a financial product or service before using it. Let’s not let the ease of digital financial access become a gateway to new problems.

“Let’s ensure that the future, which should be filled with achievements, isn’t disrupted because of getting trapped in illegal online loans, illegal investments, or various digital fraud schemes,” she said.

OJK also specifically reminded students about the use of paylater services.

This financing facility should be used based on needs and financial capacity, not merely to follow lifestyle or trends.
