The popular Korean webtoon Villains Are Destined to Die is now officially slated for a TV anime adaptation. The news coincides with the webtoon’s main storyline reaching its conclusion at Chapter 214. No details regarding the anime’s production studio, staff, voice cast, release schedule, or format have been disclosed yet.
Rooted in Gwon Gyeoeul’s original novel and illustrated by SUOL for its comic version, Villains Are Destined to Die follows a college student who suddenly finds herself inside the otome game she used to play. She awakens as Penelope, the game’s notorious antagonist in its hardest mode.
Facing multiple possible endings that could result in her death, Penelope must increase the affection levels of the game’s potential love interests and devise a way to clear the game successfully.
The series is published by D&C MEDIA and has been running on Piccoma in Japan, where it captured the SMARTOON award at the Piccoma AWARD 2026. An X (Twitter) campaign is underway until August 15, with ten winners receiving a B2‑sized poster featuring a fresh illustration by SUOL.
Yen Press licensed both the original web novel and its comic adaptation in English, describing the story:
“You have failed to reach any love interest’s ending. As a result, you will be given a penalty.” After countless hardships, narrow escapes, and unrequited feelings, everything Penelope has worked toward collapses when Ivonne, the true daughter of House Eckhart, returns. The blame seems to fall on Eckles, the very person she counted on for her survival and escape. However, when she confronts him, a shocking truth about Ivonne surfaces. Overwhelmed by terror and despair, Penelope can only watch as midnight strikes on her coming‑of‑age ceremony, sealing the end of hard mode and forcing her to face the consequences.
