TAMANSARI, Thecuy.com– A prolonged drought has begun to seriously affect agriculture in Mulyasari Village, Tamansari District, Tasikmalaya City. Numerous rice fields cultivated by local farmers have dried up and died due to insufficient water supply.
This situation threatens farmers with losses reaching millions of rupiah. The rice crops, which were expected to be harvested, have dried up before reaching maturity.
Amid this crisis, farmers can only wait helplessly for the rain to return, as the water sources they have relied on to irrigate their fields are now drying up.

A farmer named Yamin (45) said his rice field damaged by drought spans over 400 bata. He said the plants are in a dire state and cannot be rescued or harvested.
“More than 400 bata cannot be harvested now because they have dried up,” Yamin said on Monday (9/8/2026).
He admitted to suffering losses exceeding Rp4 million, covering only the costs of preparing and planting the field. The invested capital is considered lost as the rice crop failed to yield.
“Indeed we are losing money, sir. The rice plants are currently hopeless. I hope there will still be capital when we plant again, because the current planting season cannot recover the investment,” he said.
Yamin explained that the prolonged drought not only caused rice plants to dry out. The situation also led to the reduction and eventual drying of the water sources typically used by farmers.
Meanwhile, the irrigation channels, which are supposed to be a key support for farmers during the dry season, have still not been able to operate at full capacity.
“There are no wells left because they have dried up. The irrigation canal is our only hope, but it still hasn’t been operational. Yet the need for water is greatest during the dry season, not the rainy one,” he stated.

According to Yamin, irrigation is vital for agricultural sustainability. When rain does not fall for a long period, farmers lack alternative water sources to rescue their crops.
“The irrigation is still not operational, even though it is our hope during the dry season,” he said.
