Weekly Shonen Jump Falls Below 1 Million Average Print Circulation for the First Time Ever

Weekly Shonen Jump now prints fewer than one million copies on average, marking the first time it has dropped under that level since circulation audits started, per data from the Japan Magazine Publishers Association.

The publisher’s most recent certified circulation report indicates that Weekly Shonen Jump printed an average of 985,000 copies each month from April to June 2026. These numbers reflect certified print circulation, a metric released every three months with input from Japan’s printing sector.

At its height in the 1990s, Japan’s top manga magazine ruled the market. The December 1994 New Year 1995 combined issue propelled Weekly Shonen Jump to its peak, selling 6.53 million copies—an all‑time record for any manga publication.

Even as its print numbers shrink, Weekly Shonen Jump continues to host major Japanese manga, such as ONE PIECE, HUNTER x HUNTER, SAKAMOTO DAYS, Akane‑banashi, Kagurabachi, Ichi the Witch, and more recent additions like Someone Hertz.

The latest quarterly report also notes Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine at an average certified circulation of 281,000 copies, Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday at 120,000 copies, and Shogakukan’s Monthly CoroCoro Comic at roughly 213,000 copies.

Starting out in 1968 as a bi‑monthly title called Shonen Jump and switching to a weekly format the following year, Weekly Shonen Jump has introduced legendary series such as Dragon Ball, Slam Dunk, Naruto, BLEACH, Hunter x Hunter, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, and ONE PIECE. Despite a steady drop in print numbers as readers move to digital, it remains one of the most impactful manga magazines ever.
