Thecuy.com, Jakarta – The discovery of 995 airsoft weapons in the former office of a private school’s foundation chairman in Pondok Pinang, South Jakarta, has drawn public attention and prompted a police inquiry. Through his attorney, Alhadid Endar Putra, the former chairman, identified as IWD, stated that all firearms were officially licensed and belonged to PT Lokta Karya Perbakin, kept for the school’s shooting extracurricular program.
Alhadid said the authorization for the airsoft guns was granted by the Indonesian National Police chief, bearing reference SI/5483-XII/2008. The weapons have been kept at the school for an extended period, intended for shooting and archery practice that the foundation’s supervisor has been aware of since 2021.
The weapons were uncovered during a search carried out on 10–11 July 2026 when an expert aide to the foundation’s chairman opened the office previously used by IWD. In addition to the airsoft guns, authorities found a 12/70 caliber firearm, ammunition, narcotics, and 25 CDs containing pornographic material across several rooms, which were later reported to the South Jakarta Metro Police. IWD’s legal counsel, however, denied possession of the drugs and explicit CDs, arguing that the items were discovered after IWD had been removed from his position as chairman on 18 April 2026 and that the rooms searched were no longer his.
The foundation, presently administered by an individual known as N, asked that the firearms be moved elsewhere. Nevertheless, starting in late July 2026, IWD and his team were prohibited from accessing the school area. Alhadid further noted that most of the items found in the office comprised spare weapon components and firearms that were no longer functional.
The case is presently being examined by the South Jakarta Metro Police amid an internal leadership conflict within the foundation. The discovery of the items has heightened the complexity of the situation, which involves both the foundation’s governance and the safety of the school.
On a different note, the government has verified that there will be no change in the position of the Chief of the Indonesian National Police despite the rumors circulating. State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi and the Chairperson of Commission III of the DPR firmly rejected the existence of a presidential decree concerning the replacement of Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo, asserting that the report is baseless.
Meanwhile, at the international level, the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department for Narcotics of the Royal Malaysian Police, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, commended the Indonesian National Police’s tactics in solving a drug smuggling case involving a Malaysian pilot at Soekarno‑Hatta International Airport. PDRM is even studying the Indonesian police’s approach to enhance security and narcotics case handling in Malaysia.
This incident highlights the security and oversight challenges within educational institutions, as well as international collaboration in combating cross‑border crime. Further investigation is hoped to reveal the complete facts and provide clarity regarding the findings.
