TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – The Tasikmalaya City Police Patrol (Satpol PP) apprehended a man suspected of stealing a pedestrian fence chain on KH Zaenal Mustofa Street. One suspect was captured, while another escaped.
The head of Tasikmalaya City Satpol PP, Yogi Subarkah, said the case was uncovered after a tip from the public received on Tuesday evening (4/8/2026). The report indicated a suspected theft of a sidewalk barrier chain captured on surveillance camera (CCTV).
“As soon as we got the report, the patrol team started searching. One suspect was found not far from the scene and was immediately detained for questioning. Another person managed to escape,” Yogi told reporters on Wednesday (5/8/2026).

Based on initial interrogation, the arrested man said it was his first time committing such an act. He is known to be a foreigner to Tasikmalaya city, working as a scavenger, and has been residing there since 2004. He claims to live in a moving cart he usually uses to collect scrap items.
According to further investigation by the officers, the theft took place at around 02.05 WIB in the sidewalk in front of Toko Safitri, KH Zaenal Mustofa Street. Two sidewalk barrier chains, each about 2.5 to 3 meters long, were allegedly cut with pliers by two perpetrators.
“The evidence in the form of chains is already gone. According to his statement, the cart along with the chains was allegedly taken away by his accomplice, who is currently still being searched for,” he said.
Currently, the Civil Servant Investigator (PPNS) of the Satpol PP is still investigating the suspect’s statements through a record of interrogation (BAP). The handling results will then be coordinated with the relevant regional agencies as asset owners to determine the next legal steps.
Yogi emphasized that residents are urged to report immediately if they encounter any signs of public order disturbance or suspected damage or theft of government assets. “Our patrol team is on duty 24 hours a day. Every public report will be promptly followed up to prevent potential disturbances of order as early as possible,” he stated. (Firgiawan)
