TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – Two names have been thrown onto West Java’s political arena. Herdiat Sunarya hails from Ciamis, and Dony Ahmad Munir comes from Sumedang.
Both are regents. Both are Gerindra cadres. Both are considered by Amir Mahpud as potential figures for promotion.
But there is something intriguing. Why not a mayor? Why not a national figure? Why these two regents instead?

Neither name appeared suddenly before the election. However, serving two terms as regent does not automatically qualify one as governor. That is the primary issue.
Herdiat Sunarya has a political base in Ciamis Regency. He is well-known among his local community. He possesses bureaucratic experience, governmental networks, and political capital from two terms in office.
Nevertheless, West Java is not limited to Ciamis. It includes Bandung, Bogor, Bekasi, Depok, Sukabumi, Garut, Tasikmalaya, Cirebon, and other areas.
Voter characteristics vary. A regent’s popularity in his own area may not translate outside his jurisdiction.
Herdiat must prove that he is not only a leader known by Ciamis residents but also a figure acceptable to West Java’s society.

Dony Ahmad Munir also has his own political capital. His experience in local government and political journey provides him with the ability to build cross-regional communication.
The challenge remains the same. Sumedang does not represent the entire West Java region. To become governor, a candidate must be able to expand networks, build coalitions, and offer ideas that address provincial community issues.
Thus, the contest between Herdiat and Dony is not merely about popularity, but about who can most effectively extend their political influence.
On the other side stands Dedi Mulyadi. KDM has the advantage of incumbency. He is already on the provincial government stage and has popularity that reaches many areas.
This is not a small asset. Moreover, today’s politics does not only move through billboards, party meetings, or cadre gatherings. Social media has become its own stage.
