THE RIBBON HERO, a fresh cinema adaptation of Osamu Tezuka’s Ribbon no Kishi (Princess Knight), has just unveiled its concluding trailer alongside additional voice talent. Marking the series’ inaugural anime production in 27 years, the film will launch worldwide exclusively on Netflix on August 8, 2026.
The pioneering Ribbon no Kishi manga debuted in 1953, chronicling Sapphire—a regal figure born with both masculine and feminine qualities—who assumes the mantle of a masked protector. The tale later blossomed into a television anime series spanning 1967‑1968, with the latest animated outing being a brief cinema release in 1999. Synopsis:
Sapphire once ruled a realm that has vanished. After losing everything she cherished in her native land of Silverland to the catastrophic event known as “Nergal,” she wanders in desolation until she finally reaches Goldland.
Despite the heavy burden of her past, she begins to sense hope as she is embraced by the warmth of the locals. Yet, as if mocking her newfound serenity, the disaster Nergal emerges once more. The same abyss that once turned her homeland to ash now threatens to dim the light of this new land.
“I will never lose anything again, and I will safeguard others from loss as well,” she declares, wiping away tears, and clasping her sword. This narrative follows a solitary heroine who ties her ribbon and vows to defy destiny.
Saya (Lalande) provides the voice for the protagonist Sapphire, and the complete voice ensemble features:
- Saya (Lalande) as Sapphire

- Koki Uchiyama as Velvet
- Mayumi Shintani as Pine
- Yoshimasa Hosoya as Rock
