Riot Games has officially unveiled League of Legends Classic, celebrating the launch with a brand‑new animated cinematic that revisits some of the game’s most iconic moments from its early days. Narrated by Zilean, the video follows the time‑bending champion as he looks back on legendary eras of League, showcasing plenty of community memes, removed items, old champion builds, runes and hidden treats that die‑hard fans will surely spot.
The cinematic emerged from a collaboration with Histeria! and Crazy Boris Productions; Riot extends gratitude to the creators and fans whose contributions helped shape the game’s legacy.

The release is paired with the introduction of League of Legends Classic, a fresh game mode that assembles features from the early chapters of the title instead of pinning it to one specific moment. Riot calls it a “greatest hits” take on the classic League, built around Season 3’s core while mixing in items from various periods.
When it first appears, League Classic includes 60 champions—40 of the original roster plus 20 more heroes introduced from 2009 to 2013. Participants get to wield the old champion designs, traditional Summoner Spells, virtually all gear from the game’s beginnings, and the initial Runes and Masteries layout. Classic items like Atma’s Impaler, Frozen Mallet, and the gold‑per‑10 strategies return, and the mode revives the original Summoner’s Rift with refreshed graphics for better visibility.
Riot notes that Classic highlights the more leisurely combat rhythm that characterized the early days of League of Legends, offering reduced mobility, slower‑paced fights and heroes with more distinct pros and cons compared to the current version. At its debut, the mode offers a PvP Draft pick, Co‑op vs. AI, and Custom Games, plus a fresh advancement system named Summoner’s Journey that swaps classic ranked matches for a milestone‑driven path.
Users can acquire champions, Rune Pages, cosmetic items and Classic skins by progressing through a special Classic ladder. Riot intends to give the community a say in the mode’s evolution via The Council, a poll‑like system that enables players to impact upcoming champion releases, cosmetics and other facets of League Classic.
