The Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress anime has unveiled a brand‑new short film called Mumei Ranman as part of its fresh 10th‑anniversary initiative. Made to mark the debut of the forthcoming Mumei Ranman scale model, the episode brings back director Tetsuro Araki and the majority of the crew that worked on the 2016 series.
The brief anime centers on Mumei getting ready in an attempt to win Ikoma’s notice. Their tranquil scene is cut short when the Kotetsujo comes under assault from Kabane. This fresh animation presents an original tale penned by Araki, with WIT STUDIO once again handling the animation, and the team consists of:
- Story & Planning: Tetsuro Araki
- Screenplay: Ichiro Okochi
- Direction & Storyboards: Tetsuro Araki
- Original Character Design: Haruhiko Mikimoto
- Character Design: Yasuyuki Ebara
- Chief Animation Director: Satoshi Kadowaki
- Music: Hiroyuki Sawano
- Sound Director: Masafumi Mima
- Animation Production: WIT STUDIO
- Production: Kabaneri Production Committee
The closing song, “ninelie”, is sung by Aimer together with chelly of EGOIST, and is written, composed and arranged by Hiroyuki Sawano.
Concurrently with the short film, the series released a commemorative illustration named “Mumei Ranman”, crafted by the original character designer Haruhiko Mikimoto, which acts as the inaugural highlight of the anime’s tenth‑year festivities.
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress takes place in Hinomoto, an island nation in the Far East during the shift from early modern to modern times, where people battle the Kabane—an undead horde that spreads like wildfire. Produced by WIT Studio, the series premiered in 2016 under director Tetsuro Araki, famed for Attack on Titan. It was later compiled into films released toward the end of 2016 and beginning of 2017, and a follow‑up picture, The Battle of Unato, arrived in 2019.
The Mumei Ranman figure comes with a 35,000‑yen price tag (excluding tax), and fans can start pre‑ordering it from July 24 via the WIT STORE.
