Thecuy.com – Forum Muda Nahdliyin Nusantara (FMNN) stresses the need to keep the Ministry of Religious Affairs neutral during the upcoming 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Muktamar. This statement is made to protect NU’s independence and dignity from state interference.

Dinamika Calon Ketua Umum PBNU

FMNN Chair, Husnul Hakim Sadad, said the emergence of several candidates for the Chairmanship of the Nahdlatul Ulama Central Board (PBNU) is normal within the organization’s dynamics. Those who have declared readiness include Gus Yusuf Chudlori, Gus Rozin, Gus Kikin, and the current PBNU Chair, Yahya Cholil Staquf. According to Husnul, the variety of candidates shows the existence of strong leadership resources within NU.

FMNN warned that the NU Muktamar contest must be free from the use of state instruments to favor any candidate. Husnul highlighted the risk of conflicts of interest if government officials run as PBNU Chair candidates. This is because officials have broad bureaucratic access, which could sway the election through state bureaucracy mobilization.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs, which has networks down to district and city levels through its offices as well as state Islamic higher education institutions (PTKIN), is a particular focus of FMNN. Husnul stressed that the primary concern is not the candidacy of government officials, but the possibility of bureaucratic interference that could undermine the Muktamar’s independence.

Harapan Netralitas dan Profesionalisme Birokrasi

FMNN expects all district/city heads of the Ministry of Religious Affairs offices and rectors of state Islamic higher education institutions across Indonesia to maintain neutrality and professionalism. They are urged not to support or interfere with any candidate, especially PCNU chairpersons who hold voting rights in the Muktamar.

Husnul affirmed that the relationship between NU and the Ministry of Religious Affairs is a partnership between institutions, not a command relationship. Therefore, civil servants must remain professional in delivering public services without favoring any candidate.

Langkah Preventif dan Pengawasan

FMNN emphasized that this statement is not directed at any specific individual but serves as a preventive measure to ensure the Muktamar remains healthy, democratic, and conducive. Husnul also noted activities that need to be watched for before the Muktamar, such as candidates making visits to PCNU chairs where they previously never did.

The Forum of Young Nahdliyin Nusantara believes that all NU cadres can compete honorably by relying on ideas, track records, and leadership capacity, not on state bureaucratic power. Should systematic attempts be found to use state instruments for intervention, FMNN pledges to voice open rejection in order to preserve NU’s dignity, independence, and honor.
