GARUT, Thecuy.com – The Pakenjeng Police of Garut Regency, together with the Forkopimcam, conducted a joint patrol across several areas, focusing on forest zones, as part of efforts to prevent forest and land fires (karhutla).

The patrol also served as an outreach program to warn residents against indiscriminate land burning in Pakenjeng District.

Pakenjeng Police Chief, Iptu H Muslih Hidayat, reported that the patrol targeted Talagawangi Village and Jayamekar Village.

The Garut New Market area will be renovated, with kiosks temporarily relocated; street lighting failure makes RTA Prawira Adiningrat Tasikmalaya route prone to accidents.

“These two areas are considered vulnerable to land fires during the dry season,” he said on Friday, July 24, 2026.

During the patrol, officers encountered a local resident burning scrub in the Panundaan Hamlet area of Talagawangi Village.

The Pakenjeng Forkopimcam issued a warning and reminded the individual not to leave the site until the fire was completely extinguished.

“This is to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby land or forest areas,” he said.

He stated that this initiative is a preventive measure aimed at boosting public awareness of the dangers of forest and land fires.

Especially, Muslih noted, given the hot weather and low rainfall.

“We urge the community, especially farmers, not to clear or cultivate land by burning,” he said.

If limited burning is unavoidable, farmers must keep constant supervision of the fire and ensure it is fully extinguished before departing the area.

This is necessary to anticipate fire outbreaks. “Prevention is the best step to avoid a more extensive blaze,” he said.

Through these activities, residents are expected to better grasp the importance of preserving the environment and to enhance preparedness for potential disasters. (Agi Sugiana)
