BANDA ACEH – A member of Banda Aceh DPRK Commission I, Teuku Arief Khalifah, urged the Mayor of Banda Aceh, Illiza Sa’aduddin Djamal, not to cut the operational funds allocated for field officers of the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) and the Wilayatul Hisbah (WH) in enforcing Islamic sharia in Banda Aceh.

Arief said that in the 2025 fiscal year the Banda Aceh municipal government still provided funds for those operations. Still, in the 2026 fiscal year the budget was no longer available to the Satpol PP/WH.

“From the 2025 accountability report, the budget was still present, but for 2026 it is not allocated. I request that the funds be reinstated because enforcing sharia is a priority for Banda Aceh. How can we ask the officers to work, even beyond their working hours, yet deny them their rights?” said the Gerindra party politician.

Arief mentioned that the Banda Aceh City Budget Team (TAPK) claimed the fund allocation must first obtain approval from the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Affairs (KemenPAN‑RB). He believes that if the issue is only administrative, it should have been clarified and settled early on.

“Aceh is the sole region that applies Islamic law, thus the enforcement of sharia needs special handling in its regulation. The city government must defend this. Let administrative hurdles not harm the officers in the field,” he said.

Arief further noted that the officers of Satpol PP/WH carry a heavy burden. They are required to work from morning through night, even until early dawn. Although they work in shifts, he said, their workload still goes beyond regular working hours.

“Think about it: they start in the morning and then stay on duty at night until dawn. Even with a rotating schedule, the field work still goes beyond standard hours. We ask them to be professional, dedicated, and focused on enforcement, yet we cut back their entitlements. I oppose this,” Arief said firmly. []
