Sword Art Online: Sugary Days, a narrative highlighting Kirito and Asuna’s married life, is now slated for a standard commercial release. The book will be available in Japan on August 7, delivering a story that centers on the couple’s newlywed experiences.
The tale begins shortly after the events of The Day Before, following Kirito and Asuna as they start their married life in a log cabin on Aincrad’s 22nd Floor. It opens as a peaceful slice‑of‑life story, eventually leading the pair on a quest to commission handcrafted furniture—including a dining table and a rocking chair—from the skilled craftsman player Mahokl.
Authored by series creator Reki Kawahara, Sugary Days first appeared as a collection of short stories presented at various events. It was later revised and partially compiled as a bonus novel included with the limited edition Blu‑ray release of Sword Art Online II in 2015. Kawahara subsequently published a full‑length edition with a new epilogue in 2018, and this upcoming release marks the story’s first standard retail publication.
This announcement follows the recent reveal of Sword Art Online the Movie: Integral Domain, a brand‑new original anime film slated to premiere in 2028. Based on a concept by Kawahara, the film will be directed by longtime series character designer Shingo Adachi and produced by A‑1 Pictures in collaboration with Psyde Kick Studio.
