Tickets for That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea are currently available for purchase. The film will open in U.S. and Canadian theaters on May 1, 2026, distributed by Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment. Directed by Yasuhito Kikuchi, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Toshizo Nemoto, the story originates from Fuse, the original creator. Animation production is managed by Eightbit (8bit). The 104-minute movie will be released in both English dub and Japanese with English subtitles, carrying a PG-13 rating for violence and suggestive content.

Before the new film’s debut, the earlier movie That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Scarlet Bond will be shown in select U.S. theaters on April 20 as part of Crunchyroll’s Anime Nights. This event will feature a 10-minute preview of Tears of the Azure Sea.

The movie serves as a standalone narrative set after Season 3, depicting Rimuru and his allies visiting a private resort island hosted by Elmesia of the Magi Dynasty Thalion. The official summary states: Following the conclusion of the Demon Kingdom Federation Tempest, Rimuru and his companions are invited by the Celestial Emperor Elmesia of the elven nation – the Magi Dynasty Thalion – to her private resort. During their stay, a mysterious woman named Yura arrives, triggering a new conflict amid the vast azure sea.

Fuse authored the Tensura light novel series starting in 2014, illustrated by Mitz Vah. The series concluded with Volume 23 in November of last year. The anime adapts the manga by Taiki Kawakami.

The 8bit-produced TV anime began in October 2018, ending in March 2019 for the first season. The second season aired in two parts during Winter 2021 and Summer 2021. The third season ran from April to September 27, 2024.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: The Movie – Scarlet Bond was the franchise’s first film, premiering in 2022. It featured an original story by Fuse and introduced the character Hiiro.

Season 4 was announced with this second film after Season 3 concluded. Crunchyroll streams both the first movie and three TV seasons. The fourth season will have five split cours, starting April 3, 2026, also available on Crunchyroll.
