Ministry of Communication and Digital of the Republic of Indonesia (Komdigi) inaugurated Bali Tech Week (BTW) 2026 at the Bali Beach Convention Center in Sanur, Bali. The event gathers thirteen technology activities from 19 to 23 October 2026, serving as a collaborative platform to reinforce trust, unlock partnership and investment opportunities, and broaden digital economic benefits for the public. During the opening ceremony, Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid highlighted that Indonesia already possesses a sizable digital market, stating that the next phase involves converting that scale into national productivity, innovation, and technological capability via three digital transformation directions: Connected, Growth, and Secure. “Our primary duty now extends beyond merely building Indonesia’s connectivity; we must also ensure that this connectivity translates into growth across the economy, society, and public services,” Meutya declared. “No worthwhile economic growth can be pursued without safeguarding. Ultimately, innovation must be able to protect citizens and safeguard businesses by providing regulatory certainty.” Approaching two years of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s administration on 20 October 2026, Meutya urged all stakeholders to assess the progress made and the tasks still pending, emphasizing that strengthening infrastructure, advancing industry, enhancing community capabilities, and protecting users must move in tandem so that digital transformation yields tangible results.

Under the Connected pillar, Komdigi highlighted the significance of quality, affordability, and reliability of connectivity. In her presentation, Meutya noted that roughly 235 million Indonesians were using the internet in 2026, achieving a penetration rate of 81.72 percent, while 4G networks covered 98.96 percent of the population. According to Meutya, technology should deliver benefits that are directly felt by citizens and businesses. Connectivity becomes meaningful when it helps small enterprises enter new markets, enables students to access uninterrupted learning, and simplifies people’s access to services that were previously hard to reach. “We still have homework to do,” she clarified. “Because of the ‘no one left behind’ principle, inclusiveness demands we achieve 100 percent. Internet speed should not only be experienced by our compatriots on Java Island but also reach eastern Indonesia.”

In the Growth pillar, digital economic development focuses on boosting business efficiency, widening market access, and generating added value. The e‑Economy SEA 2025 report projected that Indonesia’s digital economy gross merchandise value (GMV) would hit US$99 billion in 2025, a 14 percent rise year‑on‑year. To capitalize on this potential, Komdigi promotes linking talent, startups, universities, industry, investors, and markets. Within the Garuda Spark ecosystem, Meutya reported that 178 programs have engaged over 15,700 digital talents, nurtured 80 startups, and involved 80 partners, with direct investments recorded at over Rp429.5 billion. Strengthening this ecosystem is expected to broaden opportunities for Indonesian innovators to develop products, secure funding, and reach markets, including the gaming sector. Technology utilization is also aimed at enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of public services through data exchange and matching among agencies.

Under the Secure pillar, Komdigi underscored the protection of citizens, security of digital services, and clear, consistently enforceable regulations. Trust forms the foundation so that people feel safe using technology, businesses understand their responsibilities, and investors have certainty to support long‑term growth. These efforts include child protection via the PP Tunas implementation, handling of hazardous content, digital literacy, and reinforcing personal data protection. Entering the third year of the administration, Komdigi also prioritized AI governance, digital talent development aligned with industry needs, and personal data protection as key agendas. “These three priorities reinforce each other,” Meutya said. “Reliable infrastructure enables innovation. Quality talent transforms technology into productive activities. Responsible governance gives confidence to citizens and businesses to engage.”

Taking place from 19 to 23 October 2026, BTW consolidates 13 technology agendas into a single platform covering connectivity, digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital economy, startup development, and investment. The opening day featured the “Connect the Nation” agenda, positioning connectivity and infrastructure as the foundation for equitable digital transformation benefits across Indonesia. The opening program also included a keynote speech by Coordinating Minister for Downstream Industry and Energy Transition and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, addressing the interrelation of infrastructure development, energy transition, and national development. “We can maximize energy downstreaming if it is accompanied by good technology and reliable, competitive, and efficient industrialization,” Bahlil remarked. “Technology is part of the digital industry that can be directly linked with large industries. Digitalization can have a positive impact if used properly.” The first day’s activities were also attended by Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Angga Raka Prabowo; Director General of Digital Ecosystem at Komdigi Edwin Hidayat Abdullah; President Director of Telkom Indonesia Nanang Hendarno; President Director of Telkomsel Nugroho; Chief Executive Officer of GoTo Hans Patuwo; and leaders from the telecommunications industry and digital ecosystem. Additional programs comprised discussions on Southeast Asia’s stance in global technology, next‑generation networks, reinforcement of national digital infrastructure, the Telkomsel AI Solution Announcement, the Tokocrypto Digital Summit, Tea Talks, and a ministerial dialogue with women leaders in the digital ecosystem. Through BTW 2026, positioned as Indonesia’s flagship technology event, Komdigi encourages industry and investors to pinpoint opportunities in infrastructure strengthening, local talent development, and the growth of Indonesian enterprises. Company founders and universities are urged to propose solutions rooted in real needs, while technology platforms and international partners are invited to share expertise to build safer and more trustworthy digital services.

Let this gathering of innovators, policymakers, and investors inspire bold steps toward a smarter, more inclusive digital future for Indonesia.
