Fool Night anime, a collaboration between SHAFT and SUNRISE, unveiled a fresh key visual, theme songs, and its main trailer just before the November 26 launch. This marks the studios’ inaugural partnership, originally slated for a 2026 Netflix‑only rollout.
Directing duties fall to Atsuyuki Yukawa, making this his directorial debut. Robert Sato provides the character designs, while Jin Tanaka handles series composition.

Fool Night is a Japanese seinen manga created by Kasumi Yasuda, who handles both writing and illustration. Serialization launched in Shogakukan’s Big Comic Superior in November 2020, and the series has amassed 13 volumes to date. The English version is published by VIZ Media in North America and by Shogakukan Asia across Southeast Asia.
In a bleak future devoid of sunlight and facing dwindling oxygen, Fool Night depicts humanity’s reliance on “transfloration,” a method that converts people into vegetation. The narrative focuses on Toshiro Kamiya, a young man who volunteers for the process yet discovers an unforeseen talent for communicating with plants, allowing him to bridge the gap between the living and their transformed relatives. Future Earth is cloaked in perpetual twilight as dense clouds seal out sunlight; scarce plant life has collapsed. Depleted oxygen drives society to depend on the limited yield of Transfloration for survival.
Toshiro Kamiya ekes out a meager existence, juggling taxes, daily costs, and his mother’s medication for her mental illness. The harsh world steadily diminishes his optimism.

Amid the bleak, hopeless environment, he embraces the “Spiriflor” fate—becoming a plant through transformation.
