TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – The city of Tasikmalaya is still striving to realize a long‑delayed ambition: air transportation. Wiriadinata Airport, inaugurated on February 27, 2019, by Indonesia’s seventh President, Joko Widodo, remains unused. No flight operations have taken place since a re‑activation attempt with Citilink failed in 2023.

Scheduled Jakarta‑Tasikmalaya flights under a charter arrangement lasted only a few days. Afterwards the airport returned to a dormant state similar to that experienced during the Covid‑19 pandemic.

Now, hopes of reviving flights between Jakarta and Tasikmalaya in both directions are resurfacing. Several provincial and central government officials explored a Jakarta‑Tasikmalaya route using Rimbun Air on Saturday (31/10/2026). They landed at Wiriadinata Airport in Tasikmalaya to attend a charity event at Sunny Terrace on Jalan Letjen Mashudi.

The test flight received backing from Deputy Attorney General Asep Nana Mulyana and West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi. Dedi expressed hope that opening the flight route would enhance public mobility and stimulate regional economic growth. He praised Asep for his role in making air access to Tasikmalaya easier.

“West Java residents should be grateful to the Tasikmalaya native who currently serves as Deputy Attorney General. He has helped make air services from Jakarta to Tasik easier,” Dedi said after the test flight.

Dedi also urged Asep Nana Mulyana to encourage the public to use the flight facilities so as to truly revitalize the economy of East Priangan.

In response to the governor’s comment, Asep gave a straightforward answer. He said that opening the Jakarta‑Tasikmalaya route is a joint effort to improve intercity connectivity and create economic opportunities for the region.

“Thank you, Mr. Governor. Hatur nuhun kasadayana (thank you to everyone). This is our joint effort with the Governor to make intercity connectivity easier,” Asep said.
