PANGANDARAN, Thecuy.com – One does not need to wait for big catches to earn a livelihood. For small‑net fishermen on Pangandaran’s east coast, tiny fish remain their main source of income.
Amid the unpredictable yields, their work becomes an appealing spectacle for visitors and a spot to hunt fresh fish at low prices.
The scene was observed on Tuesday (27/10/2026). A number of fishermen were seen working together along the shoreline.

Some went out to sea to set the nets, while others held the ropes and dragged the arad net toward the shore.
On the beachfront, female fishermen prepared to receive the catch.
Some waited for the fish to gather, while the rest promptly sold the tiny fish to locals and visitors.
Fresh fish were displayed on the coastal barrier. Their price was quite reasonable, serving as a unique draw for visitors who want to take home seafood without spending too much.
Even though large fish were scarce, the fishing activity continued.
The arad net primarily caught anchovies, tiny anchovies, small scads, squid, and various other fish species.
Pangandaran fisherman Karnyo (53) said he had hauled the net twice that morning.
The catch was mostly composed of small fish, yet he remained grateful for still being able to bring home a share of the sea’s bounty.

Karnyo stated that anchovies were among the species that were frequently caught in the net.
Weather conditions were relatively favorable, with modest waves, allowing fishermen to carry out their activities more comfortably.
Nevertheless, the sea remains unpredictable. Pleasant weather does not necessarily guarantee an abundant catch.
For fishermen, any amount of fish caught is still meaningful for their family’s livelihood.
On the other hand, the activity benefits both residents and tourists.
In addition to observing the fishermen’s catch firsthand, visitors also have the opportunity to purchase fresh seafood at affordable prices.
One tourist, Herni, admitted that she often visited the area to buy fish.
