Thecuy.com – The Chief Editor of Bangka Pos Group, Ade Mayasanto, states that Indonesia requires competent and professional journalists amidst the increasingly intricate challenges of the journalistic field. He also hopes that journalists in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province who have passed the Journalist Competency Test (UKW) will continue learning after being certified as competent.
Ade expressed this hope during an interview with Sumselupdate.com in Pangkalpinang on Friday (23/10/2026). According to him, competence is an essential requirement for journalists to effectively perform their journalistic duties.
“Journalism is not easy and requires training. Once trained, it will enhance colleagues’ knowledge, experience, insight, and understanding for fellow journalists in Bangka and Belitung,” said Ade.
Ade believes that the learning and training process must be continuous. He emphasized that passing the UKW is not the end of a journalist’s self-development, but rather a part of the professional journey.
He also stated that competent journalists are a crucial element in producing quality journalistic works that meet the information needs of society. “In any case, we need competent journalists in Indonesia,” he asserted.
Furthermore, Ade said that improving competence will enhance journalists’ knowledge base while also increasing their experience and insight in dealing with various issues while carrying out their journalistic duties. According to him, good journalism is journalism that is staffed by competent journalists.
