Thecuy.com – French President Emmanuel Macron proceeded with a tour of Gulf nations despite ongoing domestic instability in France. The visit was aimed at strengthening energy diplomacy to safeguard supply and stabilise the fuel market.

Agenda of Gulf Visit

From Monday to Wednesday (21‑10), a tour covering United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar took place. In a speech broadcast from the Élysée Palace on Sunday (18‑10), Macron highlighted international actions his administration has taken to guarantee fuel and gas availability.

French Situation

Macron said, “Protesters have voiced concerns about the cost of living and fuel prices. I have taken several initiatives at the international level to guarantee fuel and gas supplies and address the energy market situation. Tomorrow morning I will continue these efforts by visiting the Gulf states,” as quoted by Antara.

Unrest and Protests

On Saturday (17‑10) large‑scale demonstrations in France turned violent. The protests, originally aimed at rising living costs and prices, escalated into clashes between demonstrators and police, looting and vandalism. Incidents of shop windows being smashed and bus stops and cars set on fire were reported.

Police attempted to disperse crowds using tear gas, stun grenades and water cannons. French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said that more than 2,000 people have been arrested and over 600 police and firefighters have been injured in the unrest. In total around 550,000 people took part in demonstrations across France, including 110,000 in Paris.
