PANGANDARAN, RADSIK – The government of Pangandaran Regency is planning to schedule an annual Kuda Lumping performance as part of the district’s anniversary celebrations.
It is hoped that this step will not only enliven the anniversary but also bolster the standing of traditional arts as a cultural identity and a regional tourism attraction.
The Kuda Lumping festival, held on the occasion of the 14th anniversary of Pangandaran Regency on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, drew many residents. The event featured hundreds of artists from various traditional art groups performing on a single stage during the celebration.

Pangandaran Regent, Hj Citra Pitriyami, expressed satisfaction that the Kuda Lumping art form has been granted a large‑scale performance venue.

“I am extremely pleased. This may be the first time since Pangandaran’s founding that we have witnessed a performance of 100 Kuda Lumping dancers. God willing, this will become an annual event. Each time we celebrate the anniversary, there will always be a Kuda Lumping show,” she said recently.
Citra emphasized that traditional arts should be continuously showcased and publicized to broaden their recognition. This should extend beyond the local population to include tourists who have come to know Pangandaran primarily for its beaches.
“This is our culture, our art, which we must display and publicize so that not only the people of Pangandaran know about it, but also tourists. Because it is a key attraction of Pangandaran Regency,” she said.
The plan presents an opportunity for the local government to broaden Pangandaran’s tourist appeal. The region’s potential should not rely solely on its beach beauty but also on the living cultural wealth within its communities.
Nevertheless, establishing Kuda Lumping as an annual event definitely requires continuity. Cultural preservation cannot be achieved merely by staging performances during the anniversary.
