The rare Toyota Kijang Innova actually comes equipped with a mechanism to install extra accessories. Paddle shift up to cruise control can be added to the family car without modifying the engine. Muhammad Bobby, owner of Bobby Spec Rare Item, said those two features are missing in all Innova variants, including the Venturer model. This caused a continuous flow of requests for paddle shift and cruise control installations from car owners until now.
“Even the top type (Venturer) does not yet have paddle shift and cruise control. The engine actually already supports it. So many features are hidden,” he explained to kumparan when met at Mega Glodok Kemayoran (MGK), Central Jakarta, some time ago.
This kind of work has been ongoing since Innova Reborn was launched at the end of 2015. Bobby discovered a way to activate the device by tinkering with it himself before finally offering the service. Regarding price, Bobby charges Rp 4.5 million for paddle shift installation, while cruise control is priced at Rp 1.9 million. Both figures already include components and labor. Car owners are free to choose one device without having to pay for both at once.
Bobby also uses brand‑new original components. He does not accept after‑market parts because they are considered high‑risk. “If customers bring their own parts, honestly we are not yet willing to do it unless they are willing to pay a high price and get no guarantee, because sometimes they are not original. We also have to install them carefully, because the system connects to the ECU. That’s why for the service we set a very high price because the risk is high,” said Bobby.
Bobby said the surge in demand is most felt ahead of long holidays, such as Eid and Nataru, especially for cruise control. His shop serves a maximum of three cars per day with an appointment system. Besides paddle shift and cruise control, Bobby also services various upgrades of old Innova components to Venturer type, ranging from mirrors, steering wheel, instrument panel, to body kit.
The price for a set of mirror replacement is set at Rp 4.85 million. The automatic mirror folding module when the car is locked is sold separately for Rp 850 thousand. The Venturer‑styled body kit is the biggest option, priced at Rp 19.5 million. “The Venturer steering wheel is Rp 10.5 for a set original, the steering wheel alone is Rp 4.5 million which is usually an exchange. The instrument panel price varies, the last one was Rp 10.5 using a new 0‑kilometer unit from the dealer, sometimes the price can change,” he concluded.
