TASIK, Thecuy.com – The call to dispose of waste properly has apparently not been enough to curb illegal dumping in Tasikmalaya.

Residents are now urging the government not only to put up signs prohibiting the act, but also to dare to impose sanctions on violators and increase patrols in vulnerable spots.

The presence of illegal waste dumps continues to be a problem that disrupts public comfort.

Empty lots and road edges are often targeted, as if public spaces can turn into trash dumps without any repercussions.

One resident, Away (45), supports strict penalties for anyone caught littering, especially in areas not designated for waste disposal.

He believes enforcement is needed to create a deterrent effect and boost public awareness in maintaining environmental cleanliness.

Away said that those who commit illegal dumping are not always local residents.

Some outsiders are thought to dump trash deliberately during night hours or early mornings after dawn, around 05.30 WIB.

“Sometimes those who throw trash are not locals. It usually happens at night or early in the morning after dawn. Therefore, firm action is needed so they don’t repeat the act,” he said on Tuesday (13/10/2026).

He proposed penalties that go beyond mere warnings. Offenders could, for example, be fined or required to clean up and remove the trash they dumped in prohibited areas, in accordance with applicable regulations.

For Away, a rule loses its impact if it’s just words on paper.

Without consistent enforcement, the prohibition against littering risks being mere decoration, while trash piles keep growing.

One area that has his attention is Jalan Sewaka.

The presence of illegal dumps in the area is seen as disrupting public comfort and could worsen environmental cleanliness if not addressed promptly.

He asked the government to put up prohibition signs at every spot frequently used for illegal dumping.

The banners, he said, should include information about penalties for violators so that the public understands the consequences of their actions.

“If possible, every location often used for illegal dumping should have a banner. So, the public knows that there are rules and sanctions to obey,” he said.
