TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – The lingering problem of illegal waste dumps in Tasikmalaya City has not been fully resolved.
Repeated cleaning efforts can still see waste piles resurface if the habit of careless dumping is not corrected.
Routine enforcement actions and community service have long been part of the city’s cleanliness initiatives. However, just removing waste does not suffice.

Without continual oversight and public awareness, areas that have been cleaned can turn back into illegal dumping sites.
The Head of the Public Order and Comfort Division (Trantibum) of the Tasikmalaya City Municipal Police, Budi Hermawan, stated that tackling illicit dumping sites is carried out by a guidance approach that engages regional components.
People found discarding waste improperly will initially be given coaching so they understand the significance of environmental cleanliness.
“Kalau ada warga yang kedapatan membuang sampah sembarangan, kami akan memberikan pembinaan terlebih dahulu,” ujarnya, Senin (12/10/2026).
Budi maintained that addressing this matter cannot be the sole responsibility of the Municipal Police.
Subdistrict officials, in collaboration with RT and RW leaders, are also enlisted to raise awareness among residents in their neighborhoods.
Violating residents can be called to the neighborhood office for guidance, with RT and RW participation.

“Our strategy engages local entities. People can be called to the subdistrict office, after which RT and RW will be involved to deliver guidance,” he explained.
Budi warned that efforts to clear illegal dumps will be difficult to keep permanent without a change in people’s conduct.
Moreover, the waste issue is not just about moving stacks of rubbish, but also about residents’ discipline in protecting the environment.
“We must not allow the location to become a waste dump again after cleaning. Therefore, community awareness is very important,” he stated.
Involving RT and RW is considered essential as these local officials are closely connected to the community.
Consequently, coaching can be carried out more quickly when unauthorized dumping is observed.
The city police also encourage community service events to raise public involvement.
