The smartphone market in the middle-class segment in 2026 is once again shaken up by a new champion from Xiaomi, the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G. Since its rumors first circulated, this device has sparked extraordinary curiosity among gadget enthusiasts. How could it not? On paper, the specifications offered seem to break the usual limits for a phone in the mid-range price bracket.
This time, the writer will take you through a thorough and detailed examination of everything the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G has to offer, especially the Purple color variant, which happens to be our main review unit this time.
For those looking for a new phone with a focus on durability, you might immediately fall in love with this device. However, the writer must give a warning upfront: this smartphone is not perfect. There is one critical weakness in the camera sector that you need to know about before deciding to get it, especially if you enjoy taking photos indoors or in your bedroom.

Estetika Warna Ungu pada Bodi

First impressions always matter, and the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G knows exactly how to captivate its users’ eyes. When I first took this smartphone out of its sales box, the purple color variant covering the back body immediately grabbed my attention. This is not a purple color that is too striking or tacky, but rather a pastel purple spectrum with a matte finish that looks very elegant and premium.
For those who often feel bored with standard color options like black or silver, this purple variant provides a refreshing breeze that represents youthful spirit and creativity.
The matte finish on the back also has a practical advantage, namely no fingerprint marks (fingerprint magnet). You don’t need to constantly wipe the back body just to make it look clean. When exposed to light reflections, this back body provides a subtle gradient effect that makes it look even more luxurious, as if you’re holding a flagship phone that’s twice as expensive.
However, aesthetics are only one side of the design coin. Another thing I felt when holding this smartphone is its quite bulky dimensions. You have to be prepared to feel a slightly heavier weight and a thickness profile that exceeds the average of today’s thin smartphones. Why is that? The answer clearly lies in the battery compartment. Embedding a giant capacity 8340 mAh battery into a phone’s body certainly requires extra space.
Although its size is quite chunky or thick, I feel that Xiaomi has done a very good job in terms of weight distribution. This smartphone does not feel top-heavy when held, so it is still comfortable to use with one hand, although for a long time, your wrist may start to feel the extra weight.

Although it looks square, its body edges are slightly curved to provide a more ergonomic grip, and the smartphone does not feel sharp.
Switching to the front, you will be greeted by a 6.83″ AMOLED screen with a bezel that is considered very thin and symmetrical on all four sides. The front camera hole with a punch-hole design is placed right in the middle upper part of the screen with a very minimal size, so it does not disturb your visual experience when watching videos or playing games.
Overall, in terms of design, this purple variant successfully balances between beautiful visual aesthetics and technical requirements to accommodate a super large battery.
The only thing I don’t like about the design of the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G is the position of the speakers that are opposite each other. This becomes a problem when watching horizontal videos or playing games because one of them will be blocked by the hand.
Pembuktian Lewat Benchmark Geekbench 6 dan AnTuTu V12
To prove whether the “Pro” jargon on the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G truly reflects its actual performance, the writer immediately tortured it with two of the most popular benchmark applications today, namely Geekbench 6 and AnTuTu V12. Relying on the latest operating system, Android 16, this device promises smarter and more optimal resource management.
In testing using Geekbench 6.7.1, the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G managed to achieve very solid scores. Based on the test results captured by the writer, this device scored a Single-Core score of 1,015 and a Multi-Core score of 2,947.

Next, the writer switched to AnTuTu Benchmark V12 (OB-1 version) to see the overall performance picture, including graphics capabilities and memory speed. The result is that the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G managed to achieve a total AnTuTu score of 930,282.

Based on the benchmark data above, the writer can conclude with confidence that in terms of performance, you do not need to doubt the toughness of the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G. This device is ready to accompany your various heavy daily activities.
SoC Handal & Penyimpanan “Ngebut” Berkat UFS 3.

Speaking of the engine room, there is one major misconception among gadget enthusiasts before the launch of this smartphone that I need to straighten out to you. I was also skeptical about this smartphone’s performance because it uses the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 SoC. However, after testing it directly, that perception turned out to be completely wrong! Its performance is truly far different and leaps beyond initial expectations.
I used the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G to play Mobile Legends and PUBG Mobile, which could roughly take up 4 hours a day. There was no disturbing heat or fps drop.
For both games, this smartphone was able to run constantly at 90 fps. It’s quite comfortable for competitive gaming, especially PUBG Mobile.
In addition to pure computing power, there is another “secret” why navigation on this smartphone feels so smooth. Because the 256 GB and 512 GB capacity variants, Xiaomi has embedded UFS 3.1 internal memory technology.
For those of you who may be wondering, the presence of UFS 3.1 (instead of the old UFS 2.2) is a true game changer for daily use. Thanks to high read and write speeds, all daily activities feel very smooth and seamless.
From fast smartphone booting, opening multiple applications at once (multitasking), responsive scrolling on social media, to drastically reduced loading screen time when entering a heavy game.
In short, the combination of a powerful engine and UFS 3.1 successfully ensures that you will not experience lagging symptoms or a “pant-sole” phone when used for dense daily routines.
This smartphone directly runs HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. The first impression of this OS is like a dumping ground, full of bloatware, both advertising games and other applications. However, all those useless applications can be permanently deleted.
Advertisements are still present on this smartphone, although their quantity is not as numerous as the previous REDMI Note generation. I tried changing the wallpaper and ringtone several times and still nothing appeared. It’s like there’s a sequence; maybe after 4-5 times changing the wallpaper or ringtone, the ads will appear. I myself was only shown ads when I changed the wallpaper effect.
Baterai Monster 8.340 mAh

Now, we enter the segment which can be considered the “Main Selling Point” (Unique Selling Proposition) of the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G, namely battery capacity. Reading the specification of a 8340 mAh battery capacity on paper may sound like a joke or a typographical error, considering that the average smartphone today only plays in the 5000 mAh range. However, Xiaomi truly realized it.
The 8340 mAh capacity changed the way I used the smartphone. For those who often engage in outdoor activities, field workers, online taxi drivers, or those who often travel and are lazy to carry a power bank, this phone is the answer to your prayers.
In real-world testing that I did, with intensive usage (playing games, streaming YouTube, socializing on media, and continuously activating the 5G network), this smartphone refused to die. I could get a Screen-on-Time (SoT) of up to 14-16 hours. If you make this smartphone a secondary device, don’t be surprised if you only need to charge the phone every three or four days.
However, such a massive capacity often raises the question: How long does it take to fully charge this phone’s battery?
I used the Charging Test feature from the AnTuTu application to monitor current, power, and temperature in real-time. Based on the test results captured by the writer, this smartphone received power input with a Peak Power reaching 35 W.

In the recorded “Charging power change” graph, it can be seen that the input power (wattage) jumped sharply to 35 W at the start of charging, then decreased and stabilized at around 20 W to 25 W to maintain device temperature so that it does not overheat, then slowly decreased (trickle charge) as the battery approached full.
The charging time result surprised and impressed me. To charge from a battery indicator position of 36% to reach 100% full, the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G only required 1 hour 4 minutes 1 second (1:04:01).
For you, a charging time of about one hour to fill up to around 64% of the total capacity of 8340 mAh is an extraordinary efficiency achievement. If we calculate roughly, charging from 0 to 100% might take less than two hours. This is considered very fast (fast charging) if we remember how huge the capacity of stored power is.
During the charging process, the device temperature (based on AnTuTu indicators) was also still within normal limits, reaching a peak of 39 degrees Celsius, so the back body of the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G only felt warm, not a worrying heat.
Kurang Mendukung Potret dalam Ruangan

After praising the design, performance, and battery durability to the skies, it’s time for the writer to bring you back to reality. As the saying goes, no gem is flawless, and the same goes for the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G.

Based on the watermark in the bottom right corner of the photo, the lens was forced to work extra hard by increasing light sensitivity (ISO) to an extreme 2500 and slowing down the shutter speed to 1/17 s. Technically, this is a ‘cry for help’ from a camera sensor that is desperately hungry for light.

Moving slightly closer to the light source to photograph the action figure resulted in better images, but the camera system still appeared overwhelmed.

Indoor selfie results were similar to those from the rear camera, with damaged details and noticeable grainy texture.

Outdoor selfie details improved dramatically compared to indoor photos, and I quite liked the natural skin tones captured by the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G camera.

What about the rear camera performance outdoors with abundant sunlight? I would say the results are decent or standard for the mid-range, both for the main lens and the ultrawide.

I personally didn’t like the flat colors from the rear camera images, and the dynamic range was quite narrow. This forced users to always apply available camera filters or edit before uploading to social media.

Switching to video recording mode, the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G is quite stable for both front and rear cameras. However, when using the front camera, the writer’s face fills the entire screen even when the hand is extended to its maximum.
In video recording mode, Xiaomi has also removed a number of features from the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G. The main camera cannot record in 4K resolution and only supports 30 fps for both the main camera and the front camera.
Informasi Ketersediaan
The Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G is available in three color variants and three storage variants. The colors of this smartphone are black, purple, and also light blue (Ice Blue).
For storage options, there is 6GB + 256GB (Rp5,299,000), 8GB + 256GB (Rp5,799,000), and 8GB + 512GB (Rp6,799,000).
The 6GB + 256GB variant seems to be exclusive for purchase through Xiaomi Indonesia’s official website, as this variant is not available in green or orange online stores.
Kesimpulan
Review Summary
The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G reflects a new reality where a smartphone priced around Rp5 million and up now requires compromise between SoC performance and camera capabilities. Unlike two years ago, where a smartphone at the same price point would already offer both camera and performance. However, the reviewer suggests opting for the REDMI Note 15 Pro 5G instead, as the performance difference is limited to storage type and battery capacity. The REDMI Note 15 Pro uses UFS 2.2, while the REDMI Note 17 Pro uses UFS 3.1; on paper, the speed difference is significant, but in normal use, it’s not very noticeable. Despite its bulkiness, the REDMI Note 15 Pro 5G’s camera sector also outperforms. It supports 4K video recording on the rear camera and 60 fps on both front and rear cameras. At the same price as the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G, you can get the REDMI Note 15 Pro+, which uses a more advanced processor, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4. If you can’t get the REDMI Note 15 Pro+, there are competitors with better camera capabilities, such as the Edge 60 Fusion or Camon 40 Pro.
